The Pink Star was taken from a 132.50 carat rough diamond, obtained by De Beers excavated at the Steinmetz mine in 1999. In April 2017, the Hong Kong jewelry giant Chow Tai Fook sold for US$71.2 million at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong auction, setting a new global gem auction record.
After two years of meticulous cutting and polishing, the pink star became a 59.60 carat oval-shaped inner flawless fancy Vivid pink diamond with a clarity level of IF. It has been named CTF Pink (Chow Tai Fook Pink Diamond) to commemorate Dr. Cheng Yutong, the father of the current chairman and the founder of Chow Tai Fook.
