Dresden Green

The Dresden green diamond weighs 40.7 carats and is the largest and most famous green diamond in history. According to historical experts, this rare natural colored diamond was mined at the famous Kollur mine in the Golconda area of India. The natural diamonds mined from this mine have excellent transparency and purity, and they are often very special and rare. Scientists believe that the crystal clear "apple green" characteristic of the Dresden Green Diamond comes from natural radiation. As a treasure of the town hall, this natural colored diamond was only inspected once by an American and a Swiss gem laboratory during the renovation of the museum in 1988. The history of the Dresden Green Diamond can be traced back to 1722, when a London newspaper published a related article, and then at the Leipzig Fair in 1742, this unique natural diamond was used by the Polish King Ogu. August III bought it from a Dutch businessman for 30,000 pounds (now about 6.5 million pounds). Around 1768, it was inlaid into an extremely precious hat ornament. To this day, the Dresden Green Diamond still appears in this form. For many years, this precious natural colored diamond has been stored in the Green Vault in the Dresden Palace. After being inlaid into a hat, it has only left the Dresden Royal Palace twice: the first time was ten years after the Second World War in the Soviet Union, and the second and most recent time it was exhibited at the MET Museum in New York.
